when i turn it on mostly nothing beeps, no HD's spin, the CPU fan blows and mostly no keybaord lights and nothing on the screen.  you can see most of this in the video i posted.  If time this evening will try without the grahpics card, if i am able to.  then i will delte the drivers and see what happens.  thanks

ok rolled back the driver, made no difference.  swapped power cables to graphics card, still nothing, and pulled it out and had a look at it.  Both that and the MB seem in good condition with nothing looking damaged or burnt.  It turns out i dont have a built in graphics card, so cant do anything there.  only thing i can do is to put a new drive in with windows disk and see what happens.

Arrrghhh.  This is starting to annoy me now.

IF YOU CAN'T BOOT TO THE BIOS POST, WINDOWS AND WINDOWS DRIVERS HAVE ABSOLUTELY FUCK ALL TO DO WITH IT.  IT'S A HARDWARE PROBLEM. Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad

OK, I feel better now.

Remove everything from the Mobo except CPU, Memory, PSU Connections, Power SwitchReset button and Graphics Card.  If it still won't boot to BIOS POST then the hardware is fucked.  My guess is the Mobo, but it could be any of the items listed.

Embarassed  oh ok.   remove all but CPU?  otherwise if i remove everything apart from all you listed, then i am removing nothing lol.  Ok, will have to try that next week as i dont have my manual to hand and i'm away again this weekend. the manual is back at old flat.  Its odd why it should mess up like this as i';ve had no problems or ussues wit the computer, its been working fine for ages.  cheers

I'm presuming that you have hard drives, optical drives, USB and other shit connected to the Mobo, so the idea is to remove all non-essential (to BIOS POST) items to see if it will POST.  My list was of things NOT to remove, i.e. are essential.  Depending on your memory layout you may be able to remove one pair of DIMMS.

One thing I forgot, and you haven't mentioned it yet, may be to remove and reseat CPU, but you will have to refit the heatsink with a MINIMAL smear of heat transfer paste.

oh god, i hate messing with teh CPU, always cut my fingers on the fan.  I was hoping it was ok as it is temprimental and easily overheats if there is something wrong.  As its not overheated this time, i'm thinking its fine.  I can try removing most things tonight and see what happens.  groan what a pain!

ps an odd feature is that when it first loads it freezes or i get some kinda graphics card error/effect on the screen, strange pixeling.  But once it has worked once, i can restart the machine and its ok.  its almost as if it needs to warm up first, starter motor bust?

The blather about drivers and windows updates was annoying me as it's irrelevant when you can't even boot to the BIOS POST.

TBH this is the worst thing about helping folks with PC problems, when they or their "friends" have been in there trying to fix it following something they found on the intarweb, they invariable screw things up even more.  A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Anyway I've now vented my wrath on the dog and the kids and am back to my usual amiable self. Wink

its hard also because written instructions are not the same as having you hear to do it for me.  plus i need the computer on with the instructions when i take it to pieces lol.

you are right, it dont even get to bios, sometimes it dont even beep.  how about a hammer?
