Hi guys, I just have a question. My girlfriend is looking at getting a gaming laptop but here is the challenge, we have a "budget" of £500 - £600 the max being £700.

Preferably she would like something which is 15.6", "black and stylish", decent RAM and processor. We were looking at a few Acer, ASUS and HP laptops on a few sites. We did look at the Lenovo ones too but not to her taste (quote: Ew they are ugly).

She is a perfectionist sooooo, yeah. That's why she's a bit picky :P

Looks a bit tacky imo but that might just be me.

Really depends on what sort of games she wants to play on it, if its the usual girl games (bubble bobble ) and the like then alls good by her a tablet for 100 quid.
If its bf4 then according to the review the ocuk one will do.

Im sorry mate, such a thing indeed does not exist, laptops under 1500 $ arent worth the hassle for gaming(FPS like BF4 and racing games). Really depends on the games she wants to play.
But IMO its a waste of money doing that, even a desktop for that money is barely acceptable gaming-wise, let alone a lappy.

Fair enoughski.

She wants to join me in games so yeah, probably near impossible. Having said that desktops within that range aren't great isn't necessarily true, my PC cost £650 and not had any issues what so ever apart from when I installed windows 8 but that was more because the OS is pants.

Warthunder is a game she likes playing as well as the assassins creed  series.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

Assasins creed could be playable at 30FPs or lower, but FPS online games ala BF4/PS2 etc are really out of that league.

To compare, a lappy with top end hardware(2000$++) will:
-Last only half as long as a desktop(1000$) without proper knowledge to clean the fans etc
-Will overheat practically twice as much as a desktop(1000$), that's with the ass lifted that is,
this is regardless of the hardware really.
This means LOW settings ALL THE TIME, high/ultra will shorten the hardwares life :(.
-Don't let the lap in laptop fool you, these things will burn out if you game like that(in bed etc)
-Gaming laptops are not mobile gaming stations like a PSP, you need a docking station or
something comparable to keep the air intake constant.

In short Gaming laptops are a pain in the ass and should be avoided if possible, a desktop or console is the way to go unless she is prepared on getting some headaches with these microwaves/Laptops :P

You can get a pretty decent tower in budget that will fill the requirements
assuming she already has access to a monitor and peripherals ..

Infact ive just added up a pretty decent system with everything in for just a tad over 750 inc VAT

If she doesnt mind the non-mobility then a desktop for that price can do adequately and be reliable too, more than a laptop in any case :P

I been pushing her to get a desktop but she had a very good point, we have nowhere to put a desktop. We have found one now actually and are going to pick it up tomorrow. It actually had a singleplayer of bf4 on the display.

In all honesty, I found PC's are always cheaper if you build them yourself. I spent around £600 on this PC, built it all myself and still using the same stuff for 5 or so years. So long story short, yes it is cheaper :P

And specs of the laptop: AMD A 10 Processor, 8GB RAM, 1 TB Hard disk, AMD Radion HD Gaming graphics.

Truth is, I don't see anything better within our price range.

Personally id always go Intel over Amd for cpu if only for the OCing potential,
My daughter has an A6 in her pc which has been problem free todate.

Ive had GPU's from both companies blow up to some degree but still prefer AMD
had a 5870 from new and recently moved to 7990.

And ive not actually bought a pre built system since my BBC model B  PDT_Armataz_01_12

Infact that not true my very first proper PC was pre buit and in hindsight was a bag of shite and very over priced at that.

TBH you could upgrade your PC and give her your old one if you were planning on upgrading in the future.

My PC runs the original black ops at  4-600 FPS, sometimes higher and it cost me just under £1600 inc. VAT (think it was £1575.64 or something like that)

A zx81 could run black ops though, hardly a great example  PDT_Armataz_01_12
