Since Wednesday my games have just started to randomly minimise. BF4 was really bad for it just start flashing back and forth, I thought windows was doing updates in the background and causing it but it is happening in all games :/
I checked task manager and nothing is running that wasn't there before :/

53 background processes and 26 windows processes.
A lot basically. I have disabled a few things in start up that I do not remember being there. I googled them and apparently not dodgy but then again the display name isn't everything. Will see what happens after a restart.

Seemed to persist last night so I'm gonna throw some ideas.
Are you still using two monitors? Maybe the mouse cursor is leaving the main screen onto the other and causing the game on the main to minimize/crash or some update messed with your desktop settings.
Using many overlays (origin, xfire, steam, uplay, teamspeak, fraps...) might cause it too, maybe try without any of them running? (if ya can find a game that doesn't require one
)
I read on overclock.net that people with wireless keyboards and mice have had these kinds of problems.
And ofc try updating/using different gpu drivers, deleting system32.exe, sacrificing a goat while humming pagan chants and all that.

It fixed itself after I done a java update had no crashes for helms deep.... Well I searched for update and it said there was no update lol. Yeah 2 monitors I have had the issue withgames that require no mouse.
I closed everything except steam and was happening. I have done no updates as everything has been working for ages. Only diff is windows updates. I do have a wireless mouse.
I don't know will look at updates in general I guess.

Hm.. I have that issue sporadically.. I dont particularly notice it.. I think it's mostly when I have Folding @ Home running or something (i.e. YouTube) is loading in Chrome, when the page loads the game minimises to the browser.. could this be your case?

I don't think so, I have next to nothing running like that while I am playing games. It is getting tedious as it just crops up before playing L4D2 or practice

I guess this hasn't been happening since day1.. which means something's changed to cause that to happen.. maybe a new game install or steam patch etc..
Maybe something to do with Steam Beta testing or try turning off the steam community feature for the game? Or re-installing?

Nah not day one. Very recent. I was thinking maybe a windows update as one happened a few days before hand. It's happened with steam closed even.
Was thinking of maybe doing a format soon

YEah windows 8. It does them silently in background. I was kind of thinking it was doing weekly updates and causing it but it does it far too frequently. I have not updated my graphics drivers for a while, mainly because it works
Can give it ago I guess.
