Hey SaS, hope you are all well.  Long time no kill anyone.

Just wondering if I can grab some IT help.  The computer is giving me blue screen of death on a near daily basis now.  The computer is probably 8years old now and has been working fine.  The backup hard drive where I keep and play my music from is FULL'ish, and the computer seems to crash while playing the mp3s.  I did also give the insides a hoover a while back and some kind of part got sucked off, either from the motherboard or graphics card!  Yeah yeah i can hear you laughing now!  Just ordered another:

WD Black 4TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache

to use at the backup drive for music etc.

I had a look at buying the same motherboard, but I think it only existies in cave drawings it is so old.  ASUS P6T

Dilema is, do I try and buy the same parts thus keeping the PC the same, or go for a full upgrade?  I can't afford much at the moment as the porn business isn't doing as well as it used to.  (stop looking at free stuff and buy porn!)  Is any hardware in my current PC useable in a new one?

The PC is no longer a gaming one :(  I am happy with the OS I am using as I am still able to use some of my fav old software.  If I do want to shoot baddies then it is on the Xbox.  Hope you can help.  I kinda know what you will recomend, so just give me examples.

Sucked off lol wtf ..
Error codes would be a start !

Ahh good old 920 .. the problem you might have is they have been getting very expensive recently due to lots of people putting a Xeon chip in there . i did the very same with my 1366 rampage board.

#1 Error code !
#2 Full system spec !

If your not planning on gaming with it then most likely some parts might be usable on a new system unless youve sucked them off  PDT_Armataz_01_12

lol well i wasnt too sure how to describe it, something which didnt look too important get hoovered off the components.

I dunno, it just gives me blue screen of death and starts dumping memory.

full system specs?!  cant even remember how to do that lol

Lol theres nothing in a pc that can just be hoovered off with causing some sort of problem somewhere :P
Its dumping memory creating error reports on the crash but it should show an error code on screen ..
If you havnt got aida64 you can get a trials version here

then do a system report and save it as a file.
But if it was a component off the mobo your looking at well over £100 for a decent replacement and youll be very lucky to find a new one.
If it was off the gpu then its not going to be such a problem.

TBH asap get rid of vista  PDT_Armataz_01_11

i looked at getting the same motherboard, but no new ones, just second hand, and i dont know what kinda hell they have been through.

If I were to do a new system, can I still use my old memoery in it to save money?  I guess the CPU is old fashioned and wont fit new motherboards?

There are some new mobos you could use that ram in (probably) LGA1150 for eg
Correct on the CPU unfortunately it will only fit Intel LGA1366 socket boards.

Pity someone couldnt accidentally spil some beer on it or something  PDT_Armataz_01_15

is £420 for mobo, cpu and ram as is being built as a gaming system for 1080p at max settings ,
so without actually looking id say you could easily build a fairly decent spec for much less than that if all your doing is playing music and web browsing.

ok thanks, i will take a look see.

I guess it is damage limitation.  Do I go for a MB which takes the CPU or takes the memort.  What is more expensive or compatable?

If thats the CPU your going for do NOT bother getting another fan, the one that comes with it is excellent and plenty good enough unless your planning on your major overclocking.

Mobo is fine and shouldnt have any issues.

Your old memory will NOT be any good for ryzen , it must be DDR4 and Ryzen is a bit picky on what it likes,
Ryzen performs much better on modules of 3000mhz and above but if your not gaming (ghay) then just get the cheapest thats on the compatibility list , although youll find that DDR4 ram is very expensive  ATM.

These are good and on the list

As for a GPU .. well depends on what your doing , if like you say theres no gaming then the cheapest will do , some thing like a GT210

But if you want to do a bit of gaming which any right thinking person would then its going to be anything from a 1050 - 1080 depending on your screen resolution and how nice you want it to look :)

OHH Ninja EDIT

As far as the CPU fan goes on the 1600 that too comes with a very good one just without the LED ring light of the 1700 .. and its not really slow by any means.

The 1050 Ti should be fine as long as your not going above 1080p with medium / high settings.

Thanks for the reply.  Very helpful :)  good news on the saving for the fan.  I'm prob not going to do any gaming :(  i know, i have the xbox for that ;)  Would be nice to have the option to come back in from the cold though :))

Shame about the memory, just seen prices, very pricey indeed! like christ what happened to the price, it used to be nothing!!   not sure what the max is i can install in this machine.  and if i will go 64bit.  windows 10??

I see there is a shortage of graphics cards due to bitcoin mining???  WTF??

monitors, i have two to choose from:

The max that board can take is 64gb but for gaming id go 16gb(2x8)
or for web browsing 8gb(2x4)
Waste of time going 32bit in this century.. i know your stuck in the 90's  PDT_Armataz_01_08
Id say without question upgrade your OS .. Windows 7 minimum which is basically free but you can also upgrade that to windows 10 (my preference) for nothing TBH .Its just so much faster .

Both of those monitors are max 1080 so a 1050 will be fine and a 1060 will run 99% of games on high / ultra. but for the sake of 70-80 quid id get the 1060 just for longevity .

EDIT :
Just to recap these will work together fine .

ASUS prime B350
Ryzen 1600
G Skill F4-2400
Any 1050 / 1060
Either of those 2 monitors

lol i am using 64bit and have for a while, more stuck in the 80s though!

the monitors i have at the moment, one for the current pc and one for the mac.  I can swap them around not a problem.  so you suggest using the ASUS VS247HR Full HD LED Monitor (1920 x 1080,

Oh I see what you are talking about, got confused.  You suggest getting a 1060 graphics card instead of the 1050 I have just ordered?  oh! darn.

that memory looks a bit intense, might try and find cheaper - if possible?  thanks again

You will still be able to game on the 1050 just not at high / ultra settings . Prob medium / high with AA turned off I doubt youll notice much diference though tbh.
yea id always go with the biggest monitor.

Dont forget Ryzen is very picky with ram. some modules it just will not work at all with,
tbh i thin you will be hard pushed to shave more than £10 off the price of that G skill kit and it is made specifically for Ryzen.

even some really shitty looking crucial is 125 quid

Trust me im a Jedi  PDT_Armataz_01_18

Haha i used to have that case , although i binned it last year when i got a new one for my daughter

PSU ! Well i dont see any reason it should have any issues running the new system even if it does make Noah look like a teen  PDT_Armataz_01_12
All the connections you need are there and seeing as your case doesnt have a side window you wont be able to see the mass of cables you dont actually need  PDT_Armataz_01_36

haha jedi?  hmmmm.  i guess i have trusted you before on builds, so....

Case seems fine, if i can save money by not replaceing that too...  What did you go for, for your replacement?  my case does have a clear side, so i can see the mess of cables and blue light coming from it.

is the PSU that ancient?  lol

done some checking, windows10 seems ok with some of my software, so i guess i will go for that, and use 64bit version.  Just got to order that on the credit card as everything else is maxed.  Starvation month!!

does the clan still play much?  activity levels still high? or is everyone now on consols?

We still play sundays and wednesdays but its certainly dropped off since we closed all the servers
No one is on console, silly boy !   PDT_Armataz_01_09
Consoles are for small children that cant afford proper gaming pcs
and even my 9 year old is spending more and more time off the ghay box and on the system above :D

Using my phone as computer is fucked!

So that is the old one. I googled it and it mentions drivers, so it could be the graphics card. But as the machine is like 9years old, it is out of date. New problem is that I keep getting "open chassis error" and am stuck in a loop as can't mend it. Pissed right off as not transferred info from hard drive to backup drive. So tomorrow, when new mobo arrives, I will have to temp install OS on new drive, copy files from the OS hard drive to backup one. Then do another install on the OS drive and copy info files across. Long day ahead!!!  Just hope I can get all the files like emails etc.

Why do all that shiz !
Just do fresh permanent install of OS on new drive then plug the old drives in and put the files where you want.

New drive is 4tb. My OS drive is 1tb. The 4 is for back up. So I need to get the info off the OS drive first.
Actually the system would still run if I use the OS drive first bbefore installing windows 10 on top. So I will plug everything together, all the drives. Then grab the data off then clean install then.
