Important information regarding Multiplay’s Community Server offering

Multiplay has hosted some incredible games on our community servers over the past 20 years and it’s been a blast supporting an amazing community of gamers. However, after monitoring for several years, it’s become apparent that the market has changed significantly. This, combined with the significant investment that would be needed to improve legacy code, means we’ve made the difficult decision to close our community server offering. We now pass the baton onto the studios and will focus all of our attention on ensuring you get the best gaming experience via official dedicated servers.

Multiplay has enjoyed supporting the gaming community through our hosting services over the years. It’s been a great experience hosting some of the biggest community-led titles for gamers worldwide. We have built on this success by delivering game hosting services direct to studios and publishers, and we are extremely proud to be supporting official servers for some of the most popular games today.

Developers and studios have a desire to provide the very best experience for their community. As such, we have built a AAA quality cloud network, and a team to support this growing demand and expectation for uncompromised high-quality experiences.

Gamers now expect dedicated servers as part of the package and studios, for the most part, deliver on this. The result, alongside other factors, has led to a significant and steady decline in demand from gamers and creators for the current community server model (see below).

The team at Multiplay has been monitoring trends like these over the years and in recent months it’s become clear where the industry is heading. This is why we have devoted our time and effort into providing game creators with the infrastructure and services they require to provide a better experience as part of the game.

Furthermore, our current community server offering has evolved over the past 15 years and is based on a code base that requires significant re-engineering to meet the demands of modern devices, while maintaining a world-class user experience. We plan to invest in new tools and services for private and configurable gaming experiences but under a new guise and improved framework.

With this renewed focus on providing services direct to game creators and a better experience for gamers, we have made the decision to close our current community server offering. As such, all games have been taken off sale and existing community servers will be supported until 28th February 2019. Refunds will be provided to customers with terms beyond this date.

We will send further details directly to existing customers via email, including instructions if it is possible to migrate your data to another provider. Our 24/7 support team will be on hand to help with anything you need until 31st March 2019.

Thank you for your support over the years. We look forward to gaming with you all as we continue our mission to provide the very best game server infrastructure for your favourite multiplayer games.
