Just for the fun..

As some of you know ive just upgraded my GPU
and TBH i get the feeling the CPU is bottlenecking it in a big way.

I know there are members with the same GPU as me coupled with a new Socket type
and i know there are members with an older GPU with the same socket type as me.

So lets do some benchmarking and see where the bottleneck is occurring .

OK so for this test we will be using the heaven benchmark set to a "Ultra" preset

For the download i recommend the fast torrent file.

i had nearly 2 gb download speed .

EDIT : Set to ULTRA then custom and reset screen size to 1920x1080

So how does bottlenecking happen? One component being "weaker" than the other?

Just run this,

FPS:31.2
Score:786
Min FPS:15.7
Max FPS:68.1
System
Platform:Windows 7 (build 7601, Service Pack 1) 64bit
CPU model:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (4009MHz) x4
GPU model:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 9.18.13.3182 (1536MB) x1
Settings
Render:Direct3D11
Mode:1920x1080 8xAA fullscreen
Preset Custom
Quality Ultra
Tessellation:Extreme

So i score a lot lower than you Lecro, same cpu and motherboard. Just a thought but im sure the x58 boards are only running PCIE2 instead of 3? So maybe the bus is a bottleneck?  Although not really sure how much difference this would make.

ok These are on my normal monitor with my default resolution.

Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0
FPS: 75.1
Score:1893
Min FPS:27.2
Max FPS:165.3

Settings
Render:Direct3D11
Mode:1680x1050 8xAA fullscreen
Preset Custom
Quality Ultra
Tessellation:Extreme

These are from second monitor with your resolution.

Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0
FPS: 65.4
Score:1647
Min FPS:25.1
Max FPS:144.7
System
Platform:Windows NT 6.2 (build 9200) 64bit
CPU model:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K CPU @ 3.20GHz (3199MHz) x6
GPU model:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 9.18.13.3165 (2048MB) x2
Settings
Render:Direct3D11
Mode:1920x1080 8xAA fullscreen
Preset
Custom
Quality Ultra
Tessellation:Extreme

How does the score work? My FPS on my second monitor are higher on each occasion but lower score than yours. Maybe an average of FPS mine was lower for longer on some sections?

Loaded a new bios to reduce any throttling of the card and seems to have improved a lot  (cheers Matt)
Obviously a new mobo and cpu are still on the cards as ive seen scores 10x mine with the newer systems

Well the good old dual core is almost usable with a 20% overclock but cant cut it in heaven
the GPUs at stock but even so couldnt even run the settings in the OP  PDT_Armataz_01_07

Set it down low and got this  PDT_Armataz_01_11
